Rumors of God deals with some of the basics of Christianity (Abundant Life, Generosity, Grace, Freedom, etc.); however, Whitehead & Tyson (2 long time friends from Australia) supplement their thinking with detailed statistics, historical studies, personal illustrations and more. The book is not a difficult read but it will challenge the new believer as well as the mature believer.
From the evolution of Fairy Tales (Pinocchio for instance, p. 15) to the manipulation of consumers via advertizing and emotions (p. 17) to real life stories of devotion and change (p. 21) the book gets to the heart of Christianity. As a Bible teacher of 15 years who has been seminary trained, the book not only caused me to re-examine my understanding and devotion to God but also provided me with fresh insights and anecdotes to use in my daily teaching ministry (teens through adults).
